San Diego Resources

When I was diagnosed in September of 2007, I was living in San Diego, CA and that’s where I received the majority of my treatment. I moved to Scottsdale, AZ in July of 2008 and am still in the process of finding community and resources here. So, for any of you who are in the San Diego area, here are some of the fantastic and amazing resources that helped me along the way:

  • PLUTA Movement Therapeutics – Nataly Pluta, PT, YT, MRA, Physical Therapist
My accupuncturist recommended Nataly to me and I was so grateful that she did. It didn’t occur to me that physical therapy would be a good idea pre-mastectomy. But because of Nataly’s experience with pre- and post-mastectomy surgical effects, she helped me prepare for both of my surgeries and it helped me recover that much more quickly and comfortably. She also gave me a set of custom exercises to do that went far beyond what I received from the hospital (itsy bitsy spider anyone?).
  • Keller Acupuncture Clinic – Lisa Pugliese, RN, L.AC. [858.272.8215]
Lisa is a Registered Nurse and Licensed Acupuncturist. She was recommended to me because of her personal history with breast cancer. She is amazing. I had previously had acupuncture, but not anything as effective and comprehensive as this. She helped me prepare and plan for my surgeries with acupuncture and nutrition planning and she was a phenomenal source of information and support as well as treatment. I was so sad to leave her care when I moved, I couldn’t possibly recommend her more highly.
  • Equilibrio Massage – Nicole Trombley
I went to see Nicole after my surgeries because I wanted someone who was experienced with post-surgical massage. Her specialty is pre-natal and post-partum massage which made me think she’d be a good fit for someone looking for post-mastectomy massage therapy. She was excellent (and affordable).
  • UCSD Moores Cancer Center
This is where I was treated and it was a great fit for me. My breast surgeon was Dr. Sarah Blair and my plastic surgeon was Dr. James Chao. I was really happy with them both. I went here for a second opinion and immediately knew it was the place I wanted to get my care. I was very happy with my decision.
  • Foundation Yoga – Yoga for Breast Cancer Care
I took a weekend class from the yoga center’s founder, Diane Roberts, CYT and it was phenomenal. It’s designed for/by breast cancer survivors, with special regard to post-surgical stretching and lymph system flushing. I only wish I did the exercises that she gave us to take home more often!
  • SK Sanctuary
FREE Breast Cancer Spa Night for cancer patients and survivors on the last Tuesday of each month. Must pre-register (don’t just show up).
